Reconstruction

PHASED RECONSTRUCTION NEWS & Updates

In September 2020, Hurricane Sally destroyed our main building, crippling our ability to serve the Veterans in our community and their families. The membership of American Legion Post 199, Eastern Shore, Fairhope, Alabama, elected to rebuild our building. This decision, along with your help, will preserve an iconic, historical building and allow us to continue providing services to our Veterans, their families, and our community for generations to come. Some of the services our Post provides are described below. Update: We have taken occupancy of Phase-I, a beautiful modern 3660+ square foot facility and with modern amenities and aesthetics fitting of the picturesque surroundings of Fairhope and sunsets on beautiful Mobile Bay. After we complete the repayment of the the remaining debt/loan, we will refocus our efforts on the Phase-II: the Historic Post 199 Building. Our Post supports Veteran affairs and rehabilitation by providing and/or connecting our local Veterans to Veteran support programs. These programs include Veteran healthcare and mental health services, advocating for improvements to Veteran health and mental health services, Veteran disability claims and appeals, and programs that eradicate homelessness among Veterans.

We support national security by advocating for, our active duty troops, a strong national defense, helping our warfighters transition back to our communities, celebrating our active duty and Veterans locally, and supporting active duty dependents.

We support Americanism by honoring and protecting our flag, igniting patriotism among future generations, championing the Pledge of Allegiance, encouraging veterans to vote, and serving as a powerful voice against those who seek to harm our country.

We support children & youth by providing scholarships to increase opportunities for patriotic youth, building future leaders through programs like Boys State and Legion Baseball, and teaching safety and respect through youth shooting sports.

We support our local community by providing disaster response and emergency relief. We also provide an open venue to our local community for community events, beach access and locally sourced entertainment.

Your contribution to our organization is tax deductible. We are a nonprofit Veteran’s Service Organization recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS under Section 501(c)(19).
